My new occupation

I was updating my address and profile on my college website today. According to Bates I'm a home manager. I guess if you have a $100,000 degree, there better be the word manager or director somewhere in your job title.
Actually, that is how I'm feeling these days. Dan is wonderful, even when he's working 60 hour weeks, he still does laundry, wakes up with the kids, cooks, etc. But managing things falls to me. All the address changes, paying bills, buying clothes, making doctors appnts. I don't see how it would all get done if I was working full-time.

Hair Hair Hair

I have to do something about Claire's hair. She could have an excellent Mohawk, it's so long on top but short in the back and sides. The little barretts I buy always fall out. So everyday I have to put it up in a topknot, but she wriggles soooooooo much that it's never even. And there's really no point in keeping the top long if I have to wait for the back to grow longer anyway.
But I've gottten superstitious about the first haircut. Our babysitter in Maryland had never cut her three year-old son's hair because they were waiting to do it on his first trip to India. And many of my old co-workers were shocked that I'd cut Nathan's hair before his first birthday, it's a taboo in a lot of cultures.
But look at this. She looks like me in high school when I used to hide behind my long bangs. Gee, Mom loved that. Every time I swipe it back behind her ears I feel like I'm channeling my Mom. But at least when I was in high school I had the sense not to get the hair caught on the peaches smeared all over my face. Posted by Picasa

You know you're an accountant when.....

Is there anyone else in this world who anxiously awaits the arrival of their Tax prep software? I seriously couldn't wait to load Taxcut yesterday, and then stayed up until 11:30 tweaking it and doublechecking the numbers.
But I'm already worried about getting audited. We just barely made the Healthcare cost deduction, which not only saved us money on the taxes, but also saved us from having to pay the 10% penalty for cashing in some 401k money when we were broke last summer. So that's about an $800 refund just there, which we wouldn't get if our healthcare costs were $20 less. Seems like that's the sort of thing that the IRS would red flag.
Geez, I'm really an accountant aren't I? I've been in denial about that for years.

Belated X-mas Present

I finally finished this hat for Dan's Mom. It came out pretty cute, and even if she dosn't like it, it was fun to make. I had to run it through the wash a few times and was convinced that it wasn't shrinking, and then suddenly it was too small. But I managed to stretch it a bit and I think it's a good size now. I'm going to start on Christmas stockings next. I don't know if my hands will cooperate after I have to change medications, so it may take me awhile to finish all four. Posted by Picasa

Dumb Donald Impression

This is the hat prior to felting. I look a little too much like a character from Fat Albert. Posted by Picasa

Trying Again

Dan wanted to start blogging, and somehow took over my user name and lost the password. My attempts to retrieve it to post to my original blog have failed, and since it was all about our former life in Saranace Lake and how happy we were there, perhaps it's best to consign it to the mists of time.
This new incarnation will probably be about the Rheumatoid Arthritis I've just been diagnosed with, living in the frozen North, and my charming kids.
